In the winter of 2013, I – more or less accidentally
– ended
up at the Chaos Communication Congress. It was shortly after the
first publications of the Snowden documents and therefore an
eventful time in the debate on Internet freedom and privacy.
During this time I have learned quite a lot about the importance
of digital human rights for our society and the necessity to
protect these rights.
The fact that I was about to start writing my master’s thesis
turned out to be the perfect reason to share academic knowledge
on privacy and the movement of activists concerned with this
topic. In Meeting the Privacy
Movement. Dissent in the Digital Age I have painted a
picture of the privacy movement as I encountered it from 2013 to
2015.
Nowadays, I still very much enjoy
writing about the privacy movement.
